SAME Weekly Digest: 6.19.09

• The SAME Joint Engineer Senior NCO Symposium is on for next week, June 23-24, in Camp Lejeune and Atlantic Beach, N.C. This is the fifth year for the annual event, which comprises two days of panels and workshops covering topics of particular concern to the joint NCO engineer community. (Click here to check out the program.) Online registration is now closed, but on-site registration is available, so if you’re in the neighborhood think about dropping by. And remember: 2009 has been declared the Year of the NCO!
• The SAME Sustainability Task Force is planning a conference call for next Wednesday, June 24, to discuss opportunities for the task force to educate and elevate the goals of sustainability in the military engineer community. The task force is open to all SAME members. • The SAME/U.S. Army Engineering & Construction Camp will wrap up tomorrow in Vicksburg, Miss. The Army camp is the first of three weeklong camps SAME will co-host this summer to give a group of high-school students a hands-on introduction to military engineering. Subsequent camps will be hosted with the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., and the U.S. Navy Seabees at Port Hueneme, Calif. A full report with photos of all three camps will be available later this summer.
• EVENT REMINDERS: Exhibitor and attendee registration is still available for SAME-hosted U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Infrastructure Systems Conference, to be held July 20-24 in Cleveland, Ohio; Registration is now open for the next installment of SAME’s LEED for DOD Projects Workshop, scheduled for July 13 in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; The registration deadline is Aug. 10 for the Fall Post Leaders Workshop, which will take place Sept. 10-11 in Alexandria, Va.; Exhibitor and sponsor registration recently opened for the 2010 Joint Engineer Training Conference & Expo, to be held May 4-7, 2010, in Atlanta, Ga.
