- SAME held the first-ever offering of SAME University this week in Frankfurt, Germany. The event, which consisted of numerous educational panels and workshops spread over several days, was intended to allow engineers stationed abroad the opportunity to participate in SAME’s training programs without having to travel back to the U.S. The workshops, offered with help from the Construction Management Association of America and the International Facilities Management Association, focused on LEED and environmental engineering and facilities, program and construction management.
- The July-August issue of The Military Engineer was finalized late last night and submitted for printing. The issue, the main theme of which is Water Planning & Management, features some great articles current issues of water resources, including flood planning, navigation, and water planning at military installations both in the U.S. and in areas of responsibility. The issue will find your mailbox near the beginning of July, but should be available a bit sooner at TME’s newly-redesigned Web site: www.themilitaryengineer.com.
- The first of the SAME Engineering & Construction Summer Camps will be held next week in Vicksburg, Miss., at the U.S. Army Engineering Research and Development Center. Additional camps will be co-hosted by the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado (June 26-July 2) and the U.S. Navy Seabees at Port Hueneme, Calif. (July 19-25). Also, from the This is Actually Happeningfile, your humble editor will be on site next month at Port Hueneme to observe at report on the Seabees camp in California! Get excited!
- UPCOMING EVENT DEADLINES: The SAME Joint Engineer Senior NCO Symposium will be held June 23-24 at Camp Lejeune, N.C. The last day to reserve a hotel room at the discounted rate is TODAY, and registration for the event closes June 16. Registration is also now open for the SAME/IFMA Facilities Management Workshop (Aug. 26-27, Arlington, Va.) and the next installment of SAME’s LEED for DOD Projects Workshop (July 13, Destin/Fort Walton Beach, Fla.)
