Army Embraces Social Media

Bricks and Clicks is probably a bit late to this story, but the U.S. Army has recently made strides towards embracing online social media tools. Guidon, the newspaper of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., reported in late May that Army personnel are now permitted access to several social media sites previously inaccessible from within the Army.mil domain, including Facebook, Twitter and Flickr.

According to this Army story, the use of such social media tools among soldiers has the support of Pete Geren, Secretary of the Army, as well as Army Public Affairs Chief Maj. Gen. Kevin J. Bergner, USA, who created a Social Media Division from the ground up within the Office of the Chief of Staff for Public Affairs.
