SAME Well-Represented at USPHS Engineer Awards Breakfast

I had the pleasure of accompanying Dr. Bob Wolff, SAME Executive Director, to the 2008 U.S. Public Health Service Engineer Awards Breakfast, held this morning at the Uniform Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md.  The annual event feautred a stellar breakfast spread, the presentation of numerous USPHS engineer of the year awards and appearances by several SAME members.

Introductions and opening remarks were provided by Rear Adm. Richard Barror, P.E., Ph.D., M.SAME, Chief Engineer at USPHS and the event’s master of ceremonies, and attendees were treated to a inspiring speech courtesy of guest speaker Rear Adm. Robert C. Williams, P.E., F.SAME, USPHS, Acting Deputy Surgeon General, current SAME Vice President and Chair of the Academy of Fellows. 

Additionally, SAME members Cdr. Richard Wermers, P.E., M.SAME, Director of Health Facilities Engineering, Indian Health Service (IHS), and Capt. Anthony Zimmer, Ph.D., P.E., M.SAME, Senior Engineer of the National Decontamination Team, Office of Emergency Management, took home awards for IHS Engineer of the Year and Environmental Protection Agency Engineer of the Year, respectively.  Congratulations to both on an outstanding achievement!
